Maricopa Daisy Award

MARICOPA, Ariz. – Exceptional Community Hospital – Maricopa is proud to announce its very first recipient of the prestigious DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses: Inpatient Nurse Spencer Hosobe. Spencer was nominated by a patient for the compassionate, attentive, and heartfelt care he provided during the patient’s recent hospitalization.

The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The program was established by the family of Patrick Barnes in 1999, who passed away from an autoimmune disease. His family was deeply moved by the extraordinary care he received and created the DAISY Foundation to say thank you to nurses everywhere.

Nurse Spencer Hosobe was chosen for his warm and genuine approach to patient care, which stood out profoundly to his nominating patient. In their nomination, the patient wrote:

In the past few months I’ve been in and out of multiple hospitals in the valley … Spencer took very good care of me. He answered my bell whenever I rang it within seconds, always there with a smile, and you could tell he had a very warm heart and he cares about his patients … He really would be concerned and hurt if something happened to me on his watch … it is one of the most enduring qualities that anyone can help and I appreciate that dearly. Thank you, Spencer, for helping me and making me feel like I mattered.”

This award is especially meaningful because it comes directly from the voice of our patients,” said Carmela Hamlett, Inpatient Manager at Exceptional Community Hospital – Maricopa. “Spencer embodies the spirit of nursing. He delivers not just exceptional clinical care, but compassion, empathy, and genuine connection. He truly represents what it means to be a DAISY Nurse.

Spencer’s recognition marks a milestone for Exceptional Community Hospital – Maricopa, as this is the first DAISY Award given. This will become an annual event underscoring the hospital’s commitment to recognizing nurses who make a profound difference in the lives of their patients and families.
