Biography

Morgan Newman, DNP, RN is a dedicated healthcare leader with a 25 year career spanning clinical and administrative roles. Beginning with her role as a nursing assistant at Black Hills Surgery Center and progressively advancing through positions in acute care nursing, nursing education, quality and infection control programs, and progressive leadership roles, Morgan’s journey has now culminated into Chief Nursing Officer of the Exceptional Community Hospital – Rapid City. Morgan aims to expand healthcare services to the area while focusing on strategic and operational leadership that embeds quality health outcomes within the current healthcare landscape of western South Dakota.  Morgan is a life-long learner and, with a terminal degree in nursing earning her Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2017 (Summa Cum Laude) and is committed to fostering work environments that empower decision-making, collaboration and fosters practice that is high-quality and evidence-based. As a western South Dakota native, Morgan is committed to succession planning that sustains healthcare excellence beyond her leadership by preparing the next generation of clinicians, nurses, and leaders. Her doctoral project “Improving Nurse Mentor Retention Through the use of Nurse Residency Programs” captures this philosophy and has been downloaded over 1000 times.

Before her current role, Morgan served as Chief Nurse at the VA, supporting quality care for veterans in acute, surgical, and primary care settings. She also served as Director of Ambulatory Operations at Monument Health Sturgis, helping expand needed community services. In addition, she has taught for South Dakota State University – College of Nursing and the University of South Dakota and is a proud member of the American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International, the National Society of Leadership and Success, and the American College of Healthcare Executives.
